Once you have loaded or entered a vocab list you can start a quiz. Select 'View'->'Start Quiz...' or click the 'Start Quiz' toolbar button. You will be present with a dialog box asking what kind of quiz you want to do. The various options are described below.
A number of alternative answers are presented. You must choose the answer that corresponds to the current question.
You can choose how many answer-choices will be displayed for each question when you start a quiz.
Multiple correct answers for a given question are supported. They will be marked as correct if selected, and the answer that the computer was expecting will be shown in the 'last answer' display.
An entry box is provided for you to enter the correct answer. The entered text must match the answer exactly for it to be marked correct.
Multiple correct answers for a given question are supported. They will be marked as correct if selected, and the answer that the computer was expecting will be shown in the 'last answer' display.
There is no way to enter the answer in plain flashcard mode. If you think you know the answer, but want to make sure, click show. If you knew the answer click go. If you didn't know the answer click pass. By clicking pass the item is marked as an incorrect attempt, allowing you to go back and try it again at the end of the quiz.
You can set a timeout, after which the answer will be shown automatically. Set it to -1 to disable this behavior. The timeout is in seconds.
Attributes are extra properties relating to each item, that can be display along with the question or answer, or quizzed on as well. Attributes are useful for testing things such as gender, number, part of speech, tense and case.
Synonyms are specified in the editor by separating them with commas or semi-colons. When you are doing a quiz you can choose to only use the first item out of a selection of synonyms (useful for learning the primary translation), or any synonym (a bit smarter) or all (if you want to ignore the commas/semi-colons). Personally, I like the 'any' mode.
Basic statistics are shown at the bottom of the quiz view. These include:
previous question
previous correct answers
your previous answers
a green tick or red cross signifying whether your previous answer was correct or incorrect
a score bar
a progress bar
If you spot an error in the quiz questions and answers you can fix it up without stopping the quiz. Go to 'View->Editor View', do the required editing and do 'View->Quiz View' to resume the quiz. The change will take effect for all subsequent questions (but not the current one). Results may be unpredictable when adding or deleting rows though.
